Isn’t Brindle Brilliant?! MD Gareth Brindle steps in to put the band through their paces!
The band is extremely fortunate to have secured the services of our temporary Musical Director, Gareth Brindle as we welcome applications for a new MD. Gareth is a highly experienced Musical Director and accomplished performer, having previously played Euphonium in Championship Section bands across the North West, as well as Baritone with the renowned Black Dyke Band.
In addition to his professional work with the Naxos Music UK recording company, Gareth has contributed to the success of several leading Championship Section ensembles, to name a few, Rainford Band, City of Bradford Brass Band, Elland Silver Band, Skelmanthorpe Band, Enderby Band, Pemberton Old Wigan DW ‘A’ B and Northop Brass Band. He is a well respected figure in the brass band world and in his wider professional and personal life.
We’re delighted to welcome Gareth as we continue our commitment to raising our playing standards, plus this will help us to continue as a strong presence in the First Section and enjoy playing some brilliant music of course!! We are already seeing the difference in rehearsals following on from the work done with us by our former MD John Binns.
Anyone who plays in a Brass Band will know that is important to enjoy playing and constantly look to improve out playing skills in the areas of intonation, dynamics, phrasing, and breathing (especially when it comes to Adjudications in Brass Band Contests!) —and it’s all building towards our big ‘Stage and Screen’ concert at Southport Little Theatre on 21st June 2026 where Gareth will be conducting us. It promises to be a great afternoon and we would love you to see you there. (It also happens to be Father’s Day, great idea for a present!)
Big thanks to Gareth—we really appreciate your time and support!
