About Us

Hello! Welcome to Skelmersdale Prize Brass Band Website!

We love our band and are here to create music that matters in our community and in the Brass Band movement. We are led by a shared commitment to enjoy playing music at the best standard we can and take care to look after our fantastic members, volunteers and supporters.

Skelmersdale Prize Brass Band is a registered charity with a proud musical heritage dating back to 1878. For well over a century, we have been at the heart of music-making in Lancashire, England, representing Skelmersdale at brass band competitions across the North West and beyond.

We take great pride in representing our community. Every member of the band, along with our dedicated volunteers, gives their time freely—none are paid. All funds we raise are reinvested directly into sustaining and developing the band. This includes maintaining and updating the facilities in our own Bandroom, covering insurance and utility costs, supporting travel expenses for deputy players, and funding our Musical Director and guest tutors.

Additional costs include purchasing and maintaining music, hiring rehearsal and performance spaces, transport, purchase of new uniforms, and brass and percussion instruments, as well as promoting our engagements. These essential investments allow us to uphold a high musical standard and remain an active, vibrant presence on the UK brass band scene.
