1st Time in 2 Decades!
That’s right folks! For the first time over 20 years, Skelmersdale Prize Band has competed in the first section. Thanks to the hard work of Ben Coulson and the dedication of the amazing players, the band has overcome 20 years of struggles and not only made it’s way back to the first section, but cemented it’s place in the middle of the table, proving that they are here to stay.
Having spent a couple of months working up Morley Calverts, Introduction, Elergy and Caprice, written for the first European Brass Band Championships in 1978, the band took themselves off to Blackpool Winter Gardens for the annual North West Brass Band Championships. It was a very cold and raining day in the seaside town, but even that couldn’t dampen the spirits of the newly promoted band, eager to prove their worth in the first section.
Following a performance everyone in the band could be proud of, a respectable 10th place was awarded, out of a possible 17.
Thank you to everyone who supported the band on that very wet and windy day and in the run up. Your support, as always, is truly appreciated. Now…onto Buxton and the rest of the contesting year.
