Top Three Triumph: Skelmersdale Prize Band Celebrates Buxton Success

The sun was shining brightly over the picturesque spa town of Buxton on Sunday, 4th May 2025 . A fitting backdrop for a fantastic day of brass banding. Skelmersdale Prize Band were out in full force, taking to the stage at the Buxton Contest with confidence, camaraderie, and musical flair. Their performance of Eric Ball’s iconic work Journey Into Freedom earned them an impressive 3rd place finish in a strong and competitive field. A first-time competition in a joint first and championship section setting.

The band delivered a performance full of expression, dynamic contrast, and emotional depth; a true reflection of the composer’s vision and a testament to the band’s recent hard work in rehearsal. The warmth of the spring sunshine mirrored the spirit within the band, who were in good form and enjoying the chance to perform this classic piece to a new audience.

This 3rd place finish marks another positive step forward in the band’s 2025 season, as they continue to build momentum and grow both musically and as a team.
